Pennsylvania Department of State staff will roll 10-sided dice at 2:30 p.m. to generate a 20-digit "seed number" which will then be used to randomly determine which batches of ballots will be audited over the next few days, according to a news release from the department.
This is called a risk-limiting audit, according to a Tuesday, April 23 news release the department issued to explain the process for the 2024 presidential primary.
"Risk-limiting audits have proven to be the highest standard of comprehensive election audits, not just here in Pennsylvania, but across the country," Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said in the April news release. "With a high degree of confidence, this RLA process provides a statistically sound, scientific method for confirming that the reported outcome of the audited election is accurate."
The dice roll to get the seed number for the general election audit will be livestreamed via the Department of State Facebook page on Monday, Nov. 8 and a PACast, which can be found by clicking here, will be available following the event, according to the recent news release.
